Speed, drugs and alcohol are all believed to be factors in a crash early Monday morning, according to the Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office.

Sanilac County Central Dispatch was contacted shortly before 3:20 a.m. on Monday, October 13, with a report of a personal injury traffic crash on East Mortimer Line Road, east of South Lakeshore Road, in Worth Township. Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the scene with Croswell EMS and the Lexington Fire Department.

Initial investigation found that a 1996 Ford F250, occupied by a 17- year-old Croswell boy and a 17-year-old Lexington boy, was traveling east on East Mortimer Line Road when the vehicle lost control. The Ford entered the south ditch of East Mortimer Line Road and into the yard of a residence in the 7300 block of East Mortimer Line Road before striking an unoccupied 2016 Ford C-Max passenger car.

Both vehicles then proceeded east and into an adjacent yard, striking an additional unoccupied 2020 Ford F150. The Ford F250 then went airborne as it drove over top of the Ford C-Max and struck a tree, finally coming to rest in the yard of the second residence.

Both occupants of the Ford F250 were treated on scene for non-life-threatening injuries before being transported by Croswell EMS to McLaren Port Huron Hospital for further treatment. Speed as well as drugs and alcohol are presumed to be factors in the crash.

The names of the occupants of the Ford F250 are not being released at this time as this is an ongoing investigation.
