Though no details could be shared, due to the two top applicants asking for privacy during the process, Brown City’s personnel committee met to discuss applicants for the interim city manager position on Monday, October 13.

The committee noted that there were four applicants, but entered closed session to discuss at least two of the candidates, with the two private candidates making up the committee’s first and second choice for the interim role.

The position is open due to the resignation of current city manager Chuck Bennett in late August. Bennett, who gave a 60-day notice when he submitted his resignation letter on Wednesday, August 27, has served as city manager since October 2022, when he succeeded Clint Holmes in the role. The interim position is temporary and will remain in place until a permanent city manager is appointed, with compensation to be based on qualifications and experience.

In related business, the city council approved hiring Rising Tide Municipal Solutions of Sandusky to handle the city manager search, with Rising Tide to receive $9,200 for their services. The council will meet again at the City Hall on Monday, October 27, at 6:00 p.m.
