54-year-old Jeffery S. Nunnery, of Sebewaing, was arrested Tuesday afternoon by the Huron County Sheriff’s Office, following an investigation into the theft of a tractor.
The investigation began after Sebewaing Police Chief Steve Repkie reported tips he had received about the man on Monday, October 6. The investigation ultimately uncovered a multi-county theft ring, with at least one related case seeing a tractor stolen and sold, possibly to someone in the Hemlock area.
As for the tractor owner in Huron County’s Rubicon Township, they had not even been aware that their utility tractor had been stolen from their shed. Other items found during a search warrant executed Tuesday at the suspect’s residence are being looked into, such as a stolen utility trailer from the Roscommon area, with the owner being notified.
Utility tractor owners in the Thumb area and across the state are advised to make sure they’ve not been victimized. Anyone with information regarding this theft ring is asked to contact the Huron County Sheriff’s office at 989-269-6500, or Huron Central Dispatch at 989-269-6421, especially if they’ve purchased something from Mr. Nunnery this past summer.
Nunnery was formally arraigned October 8 on the Rubicon Township felony charges, with more unrelated charges likely to develop as investigation continues. He remains lodged in the Huron County Jail on a $25,000 cash bond.
