The B-52s have been eligible for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame since 2004, but so far they’ve never even been nominated — something vocalist Fred Schneider has strong feelings about.
“I don’t care anymore,” he tells Vulture. “We should have been in 20 years ago because if it’s about influencing other bands, I can’t tell you how many bands said they were influenced by us.”
Schneider says his bandmate Kate Pierson “is really champing at the bit to get in,” but he isn’t.
“It just doesn’t make any sense that we’re not in,” he says. “Other bands have gotten in who aren’t even rock and roll. I could care less about being in there with John Cougar Mellencamp.”
The B-52s kicked off a new tour with Devo, another band that isn’t in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, on Wednesday in Toronto. The Cosmic De-evolution Tour hits Clarkston, Michigan, on Thursday. A full list of dates can be found at TheB52s.com.
