The Huron County Sheriff’s Department is asking for the public’s help in locating Raymond J. Babbitt, 36, who went missing from Owendale on Monday, September 16.
According to the sheriff’s office, Babbitt had been staying with his brother in Owendale after moving to the area about two months ago, but was reported missing after a concerning “suicide-type note” was found, saying goodbye to family and friends. Left behind was Babbitt’s phone, with the man believed to have left the residence on foot as he did not have a vehicle.
It was originally believed that he did not have access to firearms, but his brother later discovered a handgun missing from a locked drawer. Authorities say they do not believe Babbitt poses a threat to the public, but they are concerned for his safety.
Surveillance footage last captured Babbitt in downtown Owendale on Monday morning, with his current whereabouts unknown. His brother reportedly has no idea where he may have gone or if he was picked up, with law enforcement and family members searching the area since his disappearance.
Anyone with information or who may have seen Babbitt is urged to contact Huron County Central Dispatch at 989-269-6421.
