McKenzie Health System is excited to announce that the new hospital project has reached the point where construction is ready to begin.
A groundbreaking ceremony will be held on Wednesday, October 1, at 12:00 p.m. at the future hospital location. Guests are asked to park at the south end of the Burger King/Storage America parking lot and use the Gates Road entrance. Golf cart rides will be available for those who need assistance.
The community is invited to this ceremonial event, which will include light refreshments, opportunities to learn more about the project, and the chance to view the latest architectural renderings of the new facility. Parking for the event will be located at the former Kmart parking lot, directly west of the new property across Gates Road.
Guests will be able to walk across Gates Road to the new property for the service; golf cart transportation will be available for those who prefer not to walk to the event site.
The new hospital project, which recently received a Letter of Conditions from the USDA’s Community Facilities Program for a direct loan of about $74 million, moved towards groundbreaking plans after the Michigan Finance Authority approved the sale of bonds for the project last Wednesday, September 10. The current hospital was built in 1967 with additions in 1973, 1980, and 1998. The replacement facility will increase square footage from 48,000 to 68,000, allowing services currently located in separate buildings to be consolidated into a single facility. The construction plan includes the new hospital, along with a wide entrance on M-46, a second entrance on Gates Road, and spacious parking.
