The St. Clair County Board of Commissioners met last Friday, September 12 to review 16 applications for the role of District 5 commissioner.

Applicants ranged from all walks of life, with several local businessmen and pastors throwing their hats in the ring. Also applying for the role was former District 81 State Representative Gary Eisen of St. Clair Township. Eisen ran in the August 2024 primary to be state representative for Michigan’s 64th District, having previously served as District 81’s state representative from 2019 to 2023.

Another previous legislator interested in the commissioner seat is former state senator Phil Pavlov, who represented Michigan’s 25th Senate District from 2011 to 2018. He also previously served as the District 5 commissioner for St. Clair County, working in the role from 2002 to 2004.

Regardless of prior experience, all selected candidates will be interviewed at a special meeting on Thursday, September 18, at 4:00 p.m. at the St. Clair County Administrative Office Building, located at 200 Grand River Drive in Port Huron.
