In addition to interviewing three people for the Republican position on the county’s Board of Canvassers, the Sanilac County Board of Commissioners will be honoring a retiring county corrections sergeant at their meeting next Tuesday, September 16.
Sergeant John Darling began his service with the Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office on September 4, 2000, as a part-time Corrections Deputy, earning full-time status on June 29, 2002. He was promoted to Corrections Sergeant on November 11, 2010.
During his 25-year-career, Sgt. Darling helped establish and grow the Corrections Division Firearms Program, mentoring countless corrections staff and thus helping improve safety, training, and operational readiness within the Corrections Division. Sgt. Darling will retire effective October 1, 2025.
Also on the commissioners’ agenda is the 2024 annual presentation by the county’s public guardian office. The commissioners will meet next Tuesday, September 16, at 1:00 p.m. at the Sanilac County Courthouse.
