Tuscola County Central Dispatch has been busy over the last 24 hours, dispatching crews to deal with a large barn fire in the morning and then to search for a missing boat in the evening on Thursday, September 4.
Tuscola County Central Dispatch was contacted shortly before 8:30 a.m. yesterday morning, with a request from Huron County for a Tanker Strike Team. 11 fire departments were on scene, battling a large barn fire that was filled with straw in the Bay Port area.
A Tanker Strike Team was assembled and dispatched from ACW-Unionville Fire Department, Mayville Fire Department, Kingston Fire Department, Elmwood Township Fire Department, Fairgrove Fire Department, Elkland Township Fire Department, Caro Fire Department and Watertown Township Fire Department.
Later Thursday evening, shortly before 8:00 p.m., Tuscola County Central Dispatch was requested by the U.S. Coast Guard Sector Detroit to dispatch the ACW-Unionville Fire Department to search specific coordinates on Saginaw Bay for an unoccupied boat. The Coast Guard had a delayed response of 2 hours from Mt Clemens.
With the assistance of the Tuscola County Sheriff’s Office Marine Patrol and fire department, the area was searched but the vessel could not be located. The Coast Guard helicopter was ultimately able to locate the small watercraft quite a distance away. It is believed at this time that it came loose from its mooring and thus set adrift.
