With the summer travel season winding down, the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is removing lane restrictions on 61 percent of its road and bridge projects statewide to ease traffic delays for holiday travelers.
Beginning at 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29, and continuing until 6 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, 100 out of 164 projects statewide will have lane restrictions removed. While motorists will see suspended operations in most MDOT work zones for the weekend, drivers are advised that equipment and certain traffic configurations may remain in place, like temporary shifts or shoulder closures.
The following work zones will remain active or have lane restrictions during Labor Day weekend:
- The Blue Water Bridge Plaza in Port Huron, St. Clair County, will have several restrictions in place:
- Eastbound I-94 has one lane closed east of the I-69 interchange.
- I-94/I-69 BL (Pine Grove Avenue) has one lane open in each direction between Hancock Street and Thomas Street.
- Westbound I-94 BL has one lane closed from Water Street to Pine Grove Avenue.
- M-25, Sanilac County, has one lane open in each direction between Derby and French Line roads via temporary signals.
- M-46, Sanilac County, is closed between Ruth and Maple Grove roads for bridge work. Detour posted.
- M-90, Lapeer County, has one lane open over the North Branch of the Flint River with temporary signals.
If necessary, detour routes will be posted at the project location. All closures are subject to change. For the most up-to-date information on MDOT projects, go to the Mi Drive website at www.Michigan.gov/Drive.
