The sheriff’s office reported on Monday, August 25, that the suspect in the case has been located, thanks to numerous tips provided by the public. The investigation remains ongoing, and no further details are being released at this time.
The investigation began when Sanilac County Central Dispatch was contacted shortly before 7:00 a.m. on Friday, August 22, 2025, with a report of a possible assault in Melvin.
Investigation revealed that a 30-year-old Melvin woman had been struck by a vehicle on Melvin Road, south of the village limits, some time between 10:30 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. the previous night. When the woman was hit Thursday night, the unknown driver did not stop to render aid, and instead fled the scene.
When the woman regained consciousness, she was in a ditch on the side of Melvin Road, and was eventually able to walk approximately a quarter mile home. The woman was transported to McKenzie Memorial Hospital by Marlette EMS before being transferred to Hurley Medical Center in Flint.
