
The Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s assistance following a hit-and-run assault in Melvin.
Sanilac County Central Dispatch was contacted shortly before 7:00 a.m. on Friday, August 22, 2025, with a report of a possible assault in Melvin. Investigation revealed that a 30-year-old Melvin woman had been struck by a vehicle on Melvin Road, south of the village limits, some time between 10:30 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. the previous night.
When the woman was hit Thursday night, the unknown driver did not stop to render aid, and instead fled the scene.
When the woman regained consciousness, she was in a ditch on the side of Melvin Road. She was eventually able to walk approximately a quarter mile home. The woman was transported to McKenzie Memorial Hospital by Marlette EMS before being transferred to Hurley Medical Center in Flint.
Names are being withheld at this time as this is an ongoing investigation.
Sanilac County Sheriff’s deputies are currently seeking aid from the public in locating a 2020-2026 GMC Sierra or Chevrolet Silverado with front right and right-side damage, missing their passenger side mirror.
