Six killed in two-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon in Tuscola County

The Tuscola County Sheriff’s Office reports that a two-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon killed at least six people, with the condition of additional patients unknown.

Tuscola County Central Dispatch received a report shortly after 4:40 p.m. on Tuesday, August 12, of a two vehicle crash at the intersection of Vassar and Fairgrove Roads in Gilford Township.

Initial investigation shows that a pickup with 3 occupants was traveling southbound on Vassar Road when it failed to stop at the stop sign, striking a full sized van carrying 10 occupants. The van had been headed west on Fairgrove Road.

Multiple passengers were ejected from the van and the pickup. At the time of the press release Tuesday evening, there were six confirmed fatalities and the condition of the additional patients was unknown.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by Fairgrove Fire, Akron Fire, Reese Fire, Munger Fire, Flight Care, MMR, Medstar, Caro PD, Akron PD, The Tuscola County Road Commission, DTE, D&J Towing, and Ransford Collon Funeral Home.

This remains an active investigation.
