Michigan State Police with the Lapeer Post tracked down and arrested a car thief Saturday, August 9. The vehicle’s owner reported her 2019 Chevy Equinox stolen on Friday, August 8.
With help from the OnStar tracking of the vehicle’s location, troopers were able to track the stolen Equinox to a home in the 5000 block of Attica Road in Lapeer County’s Attica Township. Troopers stopped the stolen vehicle as it backed down the home’s driveway around 10:30 p.m. Saturday evening. A 41-year-old Attica man was driving.
A search of the stolen car revealed burglary tools, methamphetamine, heroin, fentanyl, suboxone, stolen credit cards, stolen driver’s licenses, and a stolen pill bottle with non-controlled pills. The man confessed to stealing the car from a restaurant in Flint.
He was arrested and lodged in the Lapeer County Jail for his Monday afternoon arraignment on three felony charges, including one count of possession of methamphetamine, second offense; receiving and concealing a stolen motor vehicle; and one count of possession of controlled substance analogues, second offense. His bond was set at $5,000 cash or surety.
He will appear before Lapeer County District Judge Laura Barnard on Friday, August 22, at 9:00 a.m. for his probable cause conference.
