Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in a two vehicle traffic crash in Sanilac County on Thursday, August 7.

Sanilac County Central Dispatch was contacted shortly after 3:00 p.m. on Thursday with a report of a two vehicle personal injury traffic crash at the intersection of Germania Road and W Sanilac Road on the border between Lamotte Township and Marlette Township. The Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by Lamotte Fire, Sanilac EMS, Marlette EMS, and Thumb Towing.

Initial investigation determined that a 2014 Kia Soul, operated by an 18-year-old Marlette girl, was traveling northbound on Germania Road when she stopped at the stop sign. The Kia Soul then proceeded through the intersection into the path of a 2016 Ford Escape operated by a 68-year-old woman from Perry. The Ford Escape collided with the Kia Soul, sending both vehicles into the northeast ditch.

Both drivers and a twenty-year-old passenger from the Kia Soul were transported to Marlette Regional Hospital by Marlette EMS and Sanilac EMS. The driver of the Ford Escape was then transferred to McLaren Lapeer.

Seatbelts were used by all drivers and passengers, and alcohol was not a factor. Names are being withheld at this time as this is an ongoing investigation.
