Millington teen minorly injured in electric bike vs car accident

A Millington teen was minorly injured after a collision with a car in Marlette Township Wednesday morning.

Sanilac County Central Dispatch received a report around 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 30, of a bicycle versus car crash on Van Dyke and Mayville Roads in Marlette Township. Sanilac County Sheriff’s Deputies, Marlette Police Department, Marlette Fire and Marlette EMS were dispatched to the scene.

Initial investigation determined that a 14-year-old Millington teen was headed west on Mayville Road on an electric bicycle when they failed to yield to a northbound Chevrolet Equinox on Van Dyke Road. The Equinox was operated by a 79-year-old Kingston woman. The teen suffered minor injuries and was transported to Marlette Hospital by Marlette EMS.

Alcohol and/or drugs were not factors in the crash and the occupant of the vehicle was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. The teen was not wearing a helmet.

Names are being withheld at this time as this is an ongoing investigation.
