Juvenile steals vehicle with child in backseat, leads St. Clair County law enforcement on high-speed pursuit

A male juvenile is currently being held after stealing a vehicle with a child sleeping in the backseat and leading police in a high-speed pursuit.

The vehicle was stolen near Pine Grove Avenue and Hancock Street in Port Huron around 9:03 p.m. on Thursday, July 17, with a one-year-old child asleep in the backseat at the time of the theft. A Marysville Police officer spotted the stolen vehicle traveling on I-94 near Gratiot and attempted to stop it. The driver, a male juvenile, fled, leading officers on a high-speed pursuit.

The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office continued the chase, with speeds reaching over 100 mph. The pursuit ended when the suspect crashed into multiple parked cars off 21 Mile Road near Sugarbush Road in Chesterfield. The juvenile driver was immediately taken into custody. Emergency medical personnel checked the child, who was found unharmed and cleared at the scene.

The juvenile was lodged at the Macomb Juvenile Detention Facility.
