accident-2

A motorcycle driver was seriously injured after colliding with a deer early Sunday morning in Marlette Township.

Sanilac County Central Dispatch was contacted shortly before 3 a.m. on Sunday, July 13, with a report of a crash between a motorcycle and a deer on Decker Road, near Miller Road. Sanilac County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the scene with the Marlette Fire Department and Marlette EMS.

Investigation found that a 2024 Kawasaki KL650 motorcycle, operated by a 46-year-old man from Prescott, was traveling north on Decker Road when a deer entered the roadway. The rider was unable to avoid the animal and collided with it, causing him to lose control of the motorcycle. The rider was ejected and came to rest in the ditch on the east side of the roadway. The motorcycle continued northbound for approximately 200 feet before coming to rest in the southbound lane.

The rider was transported to Marlette Regional Hospital and later flown by Survival Flight to Hurley Medical Center in Flint for further treatment. The name of the rider is not being released at this time.

Deputies were further assisted at the scene by Bartnik’s Towing.

Neither speed nor alcohol appear to be factors in the crash. The rider was wearing a helmet at the time of the incident.
