A Caro man was charged with an OWI following a crash on Monday evening in Tuscola County’s Koylton Township.
Tuscola County Sheriff’s Deputies Michael Redfield and Kyle Broecker were dispatched to a crash on Shay Lake Road, near Arden Park Drive in Koylton Township around 7:14 p.m. on Monday, July 14.
Upon arrival, deputies determined the vehicle had been traveling east on Shay Lake Road when it failed to stop for a construction zone barricade. The vehicle then struck a CAT Telehandler, causing minor damage to the equipment. The vehicle came to a stop on an embankment just prior to going off a large drop off and into the water.
The driver, a 20-year-old Caro man, suffered minor injuries. The driver stated his brakes went out, causing the crash, but obvious signs of intoxication were noticed by deputies. He was subsequently arrested for operating while intoxicated.
Deputies were assisted by Kingston Police, Mayville Fire Department, and the Tuscola County Road Commission.
The Tuscola County Sheriff’s Office notes that this was one of three OWI related traffic crashes handled by the Sheriff’s Office on Monday night. Deputy Jack Dudzik and Sgt. Chris Whetstone handled two crashes: one at Orr and Boy Scout Roads, and another at Ormes Road near Loren Road. Both of those drivers were also arrested for OWI.
