A music teacher fired from a Lapeer charter school last year was sentenced this afternoon to a minimum of six years, maximum 20 years, in prison for charges related to the distribution of child sexually abusive material.

49-year-old Keith Corbett was sentenced by Judge Michael Nolan in Lapeer County’s 40th Circuit Court on Monday, July 14, at 1:30 p.m.

He pleaded no contest on April 29, 2025 to all charges, including 17 counts of using a computer to commit a crime, nine counts of distributing child sexually abusive material, six counts of child sexually abusive activity, and two counts of accosting children for immoral purposes.

Corbett had been employed with Lapeer County’s Chatfield School for at least a decade, teaching music at the K-8 public charter school. He was let go from the position in June 2024, after the school learned of the investigation and associated social media posts.

Corbett was given credit for 347 days served in jail, but was also ordered to pay $3,152 for court costs and other related fees. When he is eventually released, he will be required to register as a sex offender.
