Sanilac County, Mich. – McKenzie Health System is proud to announce extended hours at the McKenzie After-Hours Clinic, along with the addition of a new provider, Trisha Ameel, RN, MSN, FNP-C, to the care team. She joins Nurse Practitioner Abigail Knox who currently cares for patients at this location. These changes reflect McKenzie’s ongoing commitment to accessible, compassionate care for Sanilac County residents.

Beginning June 30, the McKenzie After-Hours Clinic—located at 120 Delaware Street in Sandusky (Hospital Campus – Outpatient Entrance)—will be open the following hours, except for holidays:

  • Monday through Friday: 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
  • Saturday and Sunday: 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

The clinic offers Urgent Care Services for minor injuries, illnesses, and physicals. Walk-ins are welcome, and online scheduling is available for added convenience. Services include onsite lab testing, x-rays, and treatment for conditions such as cold and flu, infections, asthma, minor fractures, burns, and more.

“This expansion is a direct response to the needs of our community,” said Billi Jo Hennika, Chief Operating Officer at McKenzie Health System. “These extended hours make it more convenient to receive the care you need, when you need it, close to home.”

Along with expanded access, McKenzie is also excited to welcome Trisha Ameel, RN, MSN, FNP-C, as a Family Nurse Practitioner at the After-Hours Clinic. A lifelong resident of Sanilac County, Trisha brings nearly two decades of nursing experience and a deep passion for rural healthcare.

Raised on a family farm in Palms and a graduate of Deckerville High School, Trisha earned her Associate Degree in Nursing from St. Clair County Community College in 2008. She later completed her BSN in 2020 and MSN-FNP in 2024, both from Saginaw Valley State University. Her clinical experience includes emergency and intensive care roles at Port Huron Hospital, Hills and Dales General Hospital, and Covenant Healthcare.

“I’m truly grateful to be joining McKenzie,” said Family Nurse Practitioner Ameel. “During my clinical rotations, I experienced firsthand the warmth and dedication of the McKenzie team. Their support during my graduate project, especially from Heather Baumeister, Billi Jo Hennika, and Steve Barnett, reinforced my desire to be part of this organization that genuinely cares about the future of rural healthcare and the people it serves.”

Trisha is the proud mother of two children, Lillian and Lukas, who attend Sandusky schools. She looks forward to continuing her career close to home, serving the community that helped shape her path.
