In addition to selecting municipal attorney Scott Radloff to provide legal services to the city, the Sandusky City Council approved a resolution to apply for Category B funding through the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) at their Monday night meeting.
Available via MDOT’s Transportation Economic Development Fund, the funding is designated to assist cities and villages with populations of 10,000 people or less in upgrading and reconstructing streets and roads.
With about eight local streets and two miles of pavement needing rehabilitation, the city is looking at a project costing about $504,165, with Category B funding possibly providing a 50% cost match of $250,000. By approving the resolution, the city agreed to commit about $254,165 from its Local and Major Street Funds.
Applications for funding are due by Thursday, June 12. Those awarded funding will be notified in mid-September of 2025.
Sandusky’s council also went into closed session for the second meeting in a row to discuss a property purchase and periodic personnel evaluations. The council will meet again on Monday, June 16.
