A local kayaker needed help after being unable to return to shore on Thursday.
Sanilac County Central Dispatch received a call around 1:20 p.m. on Thursday, May 29, from a 51-year-old man reporting that he was unable to return to shore. He had been kayaking out of Port Sanilac Harbor and was now approximately three miles offshore, in the area of Forester Road.
Deputies responded from Port Sanilac Harbor in the patrol boat, locating the man approximately three miles offshore and in the vicinity of Day Road.
The man was safely transferred to the patrol boat along with his kayak and fishing gear before being transported to shore. He turned over to Port Sanilac Fire Department and Sanilac EMS for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, being later transported by Sanilac EMS to Deckerville Hospital for additional medical evaluation.
