St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office warns of new scam

scam

The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department has received multiple reports over the last week regarding a scam involving the department.

Victims have reported being contacted by a caller claiming to be from the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office. The caller states that if the victim pays a certain amount of money by a certain time, they can get a loved one out of jail on a tether. The sheriff’s office reports that that is not how tethers work, nor would the agency call to solicit payment in any way.

As with other scams, a telltale sign is asking for money, and within a time frame.

If you believe that you have fallen victim to this scam please contact St. Clair County Central Dispatch at (810) 985-8115 to make a report.
