U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) was in the Croswell area last week, arresting 10 undocumented immigrants on Tuesday, May 13.

The arrests were announced last Wednesday via a Facebook post by the US Border Patrol’s Detroit Sector, with agents from the Marysville station handling the arrests.

Though the agency shared that the arrests were made in collaboration with local law enforcement, the Sanilac County Sheriff’s Department shared that they were not notified of the operation, nor directly involved. Undersheriff Nathan Smith noted via email that “[f]ederal agencies such as ICE often operate independently and are not required to coordinate with local law enforcement unless there is a need for joint assistance or cooperation on specific cases.”

Charges being leveled at those arrested include: non-immigrant overstay, immigrant without an immigrant visa, alien inadmissibility, alien present without admission and alien removal.

According to the agency’s statement, all subjects are being processed for removal from the United States.
