Huron County’s Judge Herrington announces July retirement

Huron County 73B District Court Judge David B. Herrington announced his July retirement date in a press release Thursday afternoon.

Herrington, who was appointed in 2008 to the role by former Michigan governor Jennifer Granholm, shared on May 15 his plans to step down on Friday, July 18 after 18 years on the bench.

Herrington was made chief judge of Huron County courts in 2015.

When he was appointed to take over for resigning judge Karl E. Kraus, Herrington was serving as attorney in private practice and attorney for the village of Port Austin. Previously, he served as assistant prosecutor for Huron County. Herrington earned his law degree from Thomas M. Cooley Law School, his bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan, and is a graduate of Bad Axe High School.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer will appoint his replacement.
