Lapeer County Sheriff K-9 Axel had his last day of work Monday, May 5, finishing almost eight years of service to the department.
Axel, a German Shepherd, joined the department in the summer of 2017, the first K-9 for the county department in about a decade. Axel, who came from the Netherlands at 18 months old, was trained to locate drugs and track people.
Axel will be staying with his handler, Dep. Frank Ruzicka, and is retiring to become a stay-at-home pup.
