The Lexington City Council will be holding a special meeting Thursday, May 8, at 5:00 p.m. to appoint a new village president, following the former one’s resignation last week.
Kristen Kaatz, village president since 2016, resigned last Wednesday, with the council formally accepting the resignation at a Friday afternoon special meeting.
In her resignation letter, Kaatz says that the role has become untenable due to “[r]ecent decisions made by a majority of council members outside of public meetings” taking “the village in a direction contradictory to [her] leadership beliefs.”
While it is unclear who will be appointed to finish out Kaatz’s four-year term, it’s possible that a council member will be appointed, with the special meeting’s agenda indicating that the village of Lexington will be approving the advertisement of an open council trustee seat.
Also at Thursday’s special meeting, the council will be issuing approval for an ordinance enforcement officer. The council will meet at the village hall, located at 7227 Huron Avenue in Lexington.
