A Friday evening crash between a car and a buggy in Sanilac County’s Evergreen Township saw one man injured, according to the Sanilac County Sheriff’s Department.
Sanilac County Central Dispatch received a report on Friday, February 28th, around 9:30 p.m., of a crash between a car and a horse and buggy on Van Dyke Road, near Pringle Road in Evergreen Township. Deputies, along with the Argyle Township Fire Department and Cass City MMR, were dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, deputies determined that a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu, driven by a 35-year-old Adrian man, was traveling north on Van Dyke Rd when it rear-ended a single axle horse and buggy. The operator and sole occupant of the horse and buggy, a 21-year-old Cass City man, was thrown from the buggy and into the roadway. Deputies investigated the buggy and found it was equipped with proper lighting and a power source, but it is unknown if the lights were activated prior to the crash.
The Cass City man was transported to Hills and Dales hospital by Cass City MMR for treatment of his injuries. The driver of the Malibu suffered no injuries and was released. Drugs and alcohol are not a factor in the crash.
The horse pulling the buggy broke free from the buggy after the crash, running away from the scene. It was later safely located.
Deputies were also assisted on scene by the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Team.
