Port Huron-based gas company SEMCO has recently received several customer reports of unknown door-to-door solicitors claiming to be SEMCO employees and asking for copies of the customer’s gas bill and banking information.
The company wants to make it clear to the local community and customers that SEMCO does not solicit customers door-to-door and does not ask for customer account numbers or to see copies of bills. Customers are advised to be mindful about sharing personal information, including natural gas accounts and banking information to solicitors.
The company reminds customers to not share personal information with strangers, to review and research utility rates if told by a solicitor that they can offer a lower rate, and to reach out to police if they feel harassed by those soliciting.
