The Sandusky Community Schools Board of Education met in special session Monday night and approved the hiring of the district’s new Junior/Senior High School Principal. In a unanimous decision, the board voted to appoint Ryan Palmer to the position effective at the beginning of the 2023-2024 school year, when outgoing Junior/Senior High School Principal Steve Carlson will be leaving the district for a position at the Huron Area Skill Center.

A graduate of Deckerville High School, Alma College, and Grand Canyon University, Palmer spent seventeen years in Arizona. He dedicated much of his time to serving Superior High School, where he led the football team to a state championship in 2018. He worked as a teacher and coach at NFL YET College Prep Academy in Phoenix, before moving back to Michigan earlier this year and taking a position at Bad Axe Community Schools. There, he served as the head football coach, and also undertook various teaching responsibilities.

Also at Monday night’s meeting, with the district’s superintendent search ongoing, applications for the position were officially posted on Tuesday. Michigan Association of School Boards (MASB) consultant, Rich Ramsey, has been advising the Board throughout this process of finding the district’s new superintendent, with a deadline for all applications set for June 13th. The first round of interviews is scheduled for July 17th and 18th. The board will officially select the district’s new superintendent on July 25th.

The district’s next special board meeting will be held on Monday, June 5th at 6:00 PM in the High School Board of Education Room.
