Deckerville Superintendent Michael Hugan announced at Monday night’s school board meeting that he would be resigning from his position, effective June 30, 2023.
Hugan, who started in the district in July of 2017, will be finishing up his six-year tenure at Deckerville, with the board accepting his resignation on January 23. Hugan formerly served as principal at Harbor Beach High School for six years, and just this past December had been rated as “Highly Effective” by the Deckerville Board of Education for his performance in the superintendent position.
There has been no word yet on when the school district will start searching for its next superintendent, nor if an interim superintendent will be appointed after Hugan’s departure. While it’s unclear what his next plans are, Hugan had interviewed last April for two different superintendent positions: one at Harrison Community Schools, and the other at Brandon Schools in Ortonville.
The latter district saw several applicants from the thumb area, including current Sandusky School District Superintendent Paul Flynn and former Croswell-Lexington School District Superintendent Daniel Gilbertson.
The final day of student classes at Deckerville is Wednesday, June 7.
