With three new commissioners on the board, the Sanilac County Board of Commissioners spent most of their January 3 meeting setting up for a new year of business.
Joined by November election winners Christine Lee of District 5, Evans Ehardt of District 6 and District 7’s John Moody, the board re-elected District 1 commissioner Jon Block as board chairman. District 2 commissioner Roger Ballard and District 4 representative Bill Sarkella were also elected to roles on the board as vice-chair and chair of the Finance and Administration committee, respectively.
While Joel Wyatt, former District 5 commissioner, did not win his November bid for road commissioner, he was appointed to a partial term on the board of public works. Michael Radford, who recently joined the county’s Central Dispatch board as well, was appointed to a full-term on the public works board alongside Wyatt, with nine other standing committee members being re-appointed during the meeting.
In addition to approving meeting schedules and bylaws at Tuesday’s meeting, the board awarded a bid to Santoro Services for the approved Forester Park Playground project. The project would see a merry-go-round being removed and replaced, as well as a picnic and firepit spot installed at the park.
With the cost not to exceed a little more than $232,000 , the project will be partially funded by $80,200 from MDNR Trust Fund grant, with the remainder to come from the county’s parks millage.
