(SANILAC COUNTY) –  The Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office is proud to announce the graduation of Corrections Deputies Cody and Kyle Abrego from the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office Corrections Officer Training Academy on January 7, 2022.
The 160-hour academy offers a comprehensive, interactive instruction program in various disciplines for local correction officers. Training topics include custody, security, defensive tactics, first aid (including CPR and AED procedures), suicide awareness, fire safety, and interpersonal communications.
The academy, certified by the Michigan Sheriffs’ Coordinating and Training Council, is an important element of providing the necessary skills for maintaining a safe, secure environment for correction officers, inmates and county residents.

Deputy Cody Abrego received the individual award for Best Performance in Defensive Tactics.

Twin brothers, Cody and Kyle, are second-generation Corrections Deputies for Sanilac County. Their father Jeremy is a 24-year veteran with the Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office.
“Congratulations to Cody and Kyle who are dedicated to learning important skills in order to safely and effectively manage our inmate population”, said Sanilac County Sheriff Paul Rich.
“The training helps our corrections officers develop and practice the tools necessary to be successful in a high-stress environment”.
