(LAPEER COUNTY) – The 138th Eastern Michigan State Fair, one of the largest and most entertaining in the area, is in full swing this week.

After two days of playing to record crowds under blue skies, the fair was hosting visitors including Veterans and Special Needs guests on Thursday, giving them special time to enjoy all that the fair had to offer.

Thursday afternoon, the famous Livestock Sale gets underway as the 4-H exhibitors take their award winning animals in to the sale ring.

During an interview with Sanilac Broadcasting’s Dave Fredrick Wednesday evening, Fair Manager Ian Kempf, who has led the fair for the past 25 years, said the fair board is pleased with the crowds and it has been obvious to everyone that visitors and exhibitors alike were ready to get out and have fun after the pandemic altered last year’s event.

The fair runs through Saturday and includes special events including Figure 8 Trailer Racing on Thursday evening, the popular Bump-N-Run Friday night and the highly competitive Demolition Derby Saturday evening.

Wednesday evening’s Rodeo drew a large crowd who filled the grandstands, including the new seating on the south side of the track.
