Sanilac Commissioners considser wifi improvements

The Sanilac County Board of Commissioners met Tuesday afternoon, discussing a variety of topics including internet service.
Commissioners agreed to contact Consultant firms that may be able to give information on how best to provide quality internet county-wide.
With the onset of COVID-19 in March, Commissioners said the need for reliable internet service has been imperative, especially for those working from home. The issue was brought to light by Commissioner Joel Wyatt who asked about county employees working from home with equipment not capable of connecting to wifi service.
No decisions were made, however Commissioners did agree to consider the possibility of a county-wide millage for internet service that would benefit all county residents.
They plan to hear from industry experts on how best to proceed.
Also at the Commissioners meeting, Administrator/Controller Tara Griffith said there is good news to report in regards to bonuses for front line workers.
Griffith said House Bill 960 was signed last week, clearing the way for designated front line workers in the county to receive $1,000 bonus checks.
She said county officials will be taking part in a webinar to learn how to proceed but said checks would be issued in the coming weeks.
Griffith also reported after being warned of a possible shortfall due to revenue sharing , to the tune of between $300 thousand to as much as $500 thousand, it appears there will be no revenue sharing decrease and for the most part, the budget would not be taking as large of a financial hit as first expected.
