(SANILAC COUNTY) – Another step has been taken towards the possible construction of a senior housing development in Marlette.
The Marlette Planning Commission gave the green light for site plans that call for 20 independent apartments, 20 assisted living quarters and a 12-bed memory unit to be built on property that was formerly the Marlette Golf Course.
The housing units will have capacity for up to 80 people and still leave 50 acres of land for future development.
The cost of the project is expected to be more than $11.4 million dollars and includes an indoor swimming pool and a community center.
The project is the brainchild of United Healthcare Partners, of which Marlette Regional Hospital and Deckerville Community Hospital are members.
Tentative plans call for construction to begin some time in August of this year and a completion date of late next year.
