(SANDUSKY) – Drive thru COVID-19 testing of front line workers and other personnel is getting underway this week in Sanilac County.
During the weekly tele-conference call between county officials and local media, Health Department Director Brian Wilke said a tent is set up on Health Department property on Dawson Street and staff will begin testing people Tuesday.
Testing will continue on Thursday and continue for as long as there is a need. Wilke said 32 people were scheduled for Tuesday and appointments were being made for additional testing Thursday.
Testing is being provided for Health care providers, health care workers, first responders as well as those in Critical infrastructure workers such as anyone still leaving home for in-person work with potential COVID-19 exposure, whether symptomatic or asymptomatic.
Once all the specimen samples are collected by late Tuesday, results are expected within 24 to 48 hours in most cases.
Sanilac County is now reporting 36 cases and five deaths as of Monday afternoon’s call with the most recent death being a Sandusky female between the ages of 20-29.
Of the actual 31 cases, minus the five deaths, two patients are in out-of-county hospitals while the rest are self-quarentining.
Six county residents have recovered from coronavirus in the past 30 days.
