(SANILAC COUNTY) – In a surprising move last week, during the trial for a brother and sister charged in the death of a woman on a large dairy farm near Marlette, came to an end, after a plea agreement was reached in Sanilac County Circuit Court.
21-year old Leobardo Torres-Castillo and 34-year old Francisca Vargas-Castillo were facing multiple charges including open murder and concealing a body. Torres-Castillo, plead guilty to assault with intent to commit great bodily harm less than murder, tampering with evidence and concealing a death of an individual.
Vargas-Castillo, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, tampering with evidence and concealing a death of an individual. Court officials say sentencing will be June 26th.
The pair were charged in the death of 42-year old Bricia Flores-Rivera last August. Deputies were called to the 3900 block of Aitken Road in Flynn Township after receiving a call she was missing and found the murder scene.
Her body was recovered later the same day in a ditch in eastern Sanilac County.
The suspects remain jailed with no bond.
