Huron County Sheriff Kelly Hanson
The Huron County sheriff department has had as development in a three-year old case, leading to an arrest. According to Sheriff Kelly Hanson, in June of 2016, “our office investigated an incident that involved several thousand dollars of damage being done to a 1974 24’ Sea Ray boat. This occurred in a shed on Verona Rd., in Port Austin Township.”
Hanson said in a press release, the boat’s owner Troy Kosinski of Port Austin, reported that among the numerous acts of destruction, several holes were drilled in the boat’s hull, floor, engine and gas tank. Several hundred dollars of fishing equipment and a GPS were also taken.
The total damage far outweighed the uninsured boat’s value, making it a total loss. Evidence was gathered at the scene and the owner offered a $2000 reward for any information about the incident.
Hanson said approximately two months ago, information was received that a suspect had been talking about the incident to others and deputies followed up on the new lead. In the process, witnesses were identified and statements were given, resulting in a two count felony breaking and entering warrant, with intent to cause damage and commit larceny to be issued.
Suspect Travis M. Kosinski, age 39 of Port Austin, was arrested and booked in the Huron County jail Tyesday, April 30th on those charges. Hanson said the suspect’s court arraignment took place in the 73B District Court. He was released a short while later, after posting a $500 bond.
Further court action is scheduled at a later date.
