(LEXINGTON TOWNSHIP) – Aside from road work planned this summer by the Sanilac County Road Commission, Michigan Department of Transportation officials say a rainy spring
has slowed the start of their work on M-25 in the Lexington and Port Sanilac areas.
Originally, construction was set to start last week with mill-and-fill paving work on two sections of the state highway.
The work included from Lynn Boulevard south of Lexington, north to French Line Road in Sanilac Township, and from the north border of Port Sanilac to Deckerville Road in Forester Township. A Michigan Department of Transportation spokesperson said work on the nearly $4 million dollar project was expected to begin this week. The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of June.
Road repairs were on the minds of Sanilac County Road Commission board members Wednesday morning as they gave approval of nearly $700,000 dollars worth of chip and seal for twenty five and a half miles of county roads.
Among the longest stretch of roads being done is a nine and a half mile section of Maple Grove costing $245,000 dollars and a five and a half section of Washington Road totaling over $158,000 dollars.
Engineer/Manager Robb Falls said the Road Commission has $4.4 million dollars worth of taxpayer money, through the road millage, to use with with a portion of it being used for the County’s share of match money on two Ruth Road projects.
Sanilac’s share of the southern portion of Ruth, from M-46 to the south village limits of Deckerville, is just over $196,000 dollars while estimates for the northern section, from the north village limits to the County Line, comes in at nearly $439,000 dollars.
