(SANDUSKY) – Monday morning around 7:20 a.m. the family of a 10-year-old girl called Central Dispatch to report that she had been the victim of an attempted child abduction. Sheriff’s Deputies and Sandusky Police responded to the scene and checked the area for the alleged
suspect vehicle, which was reported to have released the girl and headed southbound on M-19 from the 500 block of S. Sandusky Road.
The investigation revealed that the girl had been waiting for the bus at the end of her driveway and went for a walk in the neighborhood prior to the bus arriving to take her to school.
In cooperation with the Sandusky Schools, the girl was secure at the school and upon being questioned by Sheriff’s Office Detectives, she admitted that she has recently been talking about abduction with her family and became frightened and had told her family that it happened to her.
The family expressed their appreciation for the response and apologies for the incident. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted in the investigation by the Sandusky Police Department and Sandusky Schools.
Sheriff Biniecki stated, “Fortunately this incident turned out the way it did, and parents and children are reminded to be aware of their surroundings and to call 9-1-1 if they witness suspicious activity”.
