Huron County Sheriff Kelly Hanson released the following statement after a drug bust in the Kinde area last week:
“Last Friday afternoon on the 23rd, our office with the assistance of other law enforcement agencies, served a drug search warrant at a residence on Bruce St. in Kinde. This search was the result of a two-week investigation into illegal drug activity in the area. Seized were several, assorted in size, glass vials that were suspected of containing a powdery substance believed to be DMT (Dimethyltryptamine).”
Hanson went on to say, “According to lab officials, this is a rare drug to mid Michigan, even though research indicates it’s been in existence across the world for decades. Its history dates back to the 1930’s and is the byproduct of a foreign tree root. The effects are said to be very hallucinogenic, more so than LSD. The suspected material has been transported to the Michigan State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Also seized were several pounds of processed marijuana in various forms, which included butter.”
Hanson said the seizure resulted in one of the residents being arrested for felony possession with the intent to deliver marijuana. That individual, 34-year-old Brandon W. Richmond was lodged in thte Huron County jail and later posted a $1,500 bond for release on that charge. Further court proceeding will follow, as well as other possible felony charges, depending on what the crime labs determines the suspected DMT to actually be.
Assisting agencies with this incident were the Kinde Police, the Bad Axe Police, The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office and a United States Postal Inspector.
