Gas station clerk thwarts attempted robbery

An alert clerk at a Marathon gas station in Port Huron foiled an attempted robbery on Monday, according to the Port Huron Police Department. According to police, a witness called 911 at about 7:30 a.m. Monday reporting the 29-year old clerk was fighting with a man who had a ski mask covering his face. The confrontation moved from the store to the parking lot where the clerk was assisted by a passer-by in pinning the suspect to the ground until police arrived. The suspect, a 22-year-old Port Huron resident, was treated at McLaren Port Huron for minor injuries and was lodged in the St. Clair County jail pending arraignment for armed robbery. The clerk was treated at Lake Huron Medical Center for minor injuries. He told police the suspect came into the store with a bag and demanded money.
