(SANDUSKY) – Departments throughout the Sanilac County Courthouse building are preparing for a software conversion that one installed, and all training is complete, will greatly enhance operations for the County.
Administrator/Controller Tara Griffith told the Board of Commissioners trainers from the B,S&A software company will be at the Courthouse for 49 days from April through July, implementing new software and training staff. Board Chairman Dan Dean said once up and running, the new system will be tremendously helpful to all departments.
In other Commissioner’s news, the board approved a new cell phone policy that will reimburse county employees $40 per month for use of their own private cell phones for after hours work.
Employees will have to send a letter requesting the reimbursement to Administrator/Controller Griffith for approval. Griffith said the long term goal is to reduce the number of County-owned cell phones being used and reimburse employees for using their own private cell phones.
Commissioners have agreed to consider a new policy at their next regular meeting regarding health care benefits for employees that may not have 10 years of service, but qualify for Family benefits. Chairman Dean said employees are taking a hit financially but not taking promotions within the Courthouse system that would result in a change of benefits.
Dean said it cost approximately $1,000 a month for an employee who may take a job promotion to buy up for family coverage with current guidelines. The new policy would allow employees to maintain their current coverage and apply to new hires.
