Michigan State Police troopers wounded in shooting

Michigan State Police confirmed two MSP members, a detective sergeant and trooper, were shot during the execution of a search warrant related to a cold case investigation Wednesday morning just after 11 a.m. in Branch County’s Union Township.

According to a press release, troopers announced their presence prior to making entry into the residence and the suspect leveled a long gun at the officers. They were attempting to take cover when the detective sergeant was shot in the chest and the trooper received a grazing hand wound.

The detective sergeant was airlifted from Coldwater to a Kalamazoo area hospital while the trooper did not seek treatment. State Police also have confirmed the suspect was shot and killed later, after the assault
