(SANILAC COUNTY) – Brown City Manager Clint Holmes said Police Chief Ron Smith sustained a back injury back while on duty and underwent surgery last week. He went back into the hospital Thursday and will be off duty for at least a month. Holmes said the City is assigning part time officers extra duty shifts as they are available. He said the Chief sustained a herniated disk while assisting on an EMS call and will be off work for an unspecified amount of time. The city will receive assistance from the Sanilac County sheriff department as needed.

(LAPEER COUNTY) – A domestic dispute in Almont Township led to the arrest of a 35-year old male around 10:30 Friday morning. According to police, officers from Almont and Dryden responded to the home on Shoemaker Road in Almont Township, after receiving reports of shots being fired. The Lapeer County Special Response Team was also called to the scene and eventually breached the home where they found the suspect hiding in an upstairs closet. The man was placed into custody and lodged in jail. No one was injured in the incident. Almont police were assisted by Dryden Police, the Lapeer County sheriff department, Michigan State Police and Lapeer County EMS.

(ST. CLAIR COUNTY) – A three alarm trailer fire early Friday morning In St. Clair County’s Kenockee Township caused substantial damage. Firefighters from Kenockee, Brockway and Grant Townships responded to the call on Hewitt Road shortly after 5 a.m., battling flames and the cold weather. The trailer was not occupied and fire officials said no one was injured in the fire. There were several domestic animals, including a goat and a hog, in the area of the fire that were not injured. No cause of the blaze has been determined.

(ST. CLAIR COUNTY) – St. Clair County sheriff deputies continue to investigate an incident Thursday that escalated to gun shots being fired. According to Sheriff Tim Donnellon, deputies responded to a home in Kimball Township around 11 p.m. after receiving a report of a dispute. Deputies, and Marysville police, later located two suspects in Port Huron Township believed to have been involved. Deputies said at some point shots were fired, although no injuries were reported. The suspects have not been identified pending charges being filed and arraignment.

(TUSCOLA COUNTY) – Earlier this week, the Vassar city council filled two vacant council seats, giving them a full council for the first time in several weeks. Three days later, they are now looking for another council member, following the resignation of Dan Sterdy. Vassar officials said Sterdy is no longer a resident in the city and is not able to remain on the board. Benjamin Kaiser, a candidate who applied earlier for the other two positions, has expressed interest in the new opening. Other applicants have until 4:30 p.m. December 18th to file an application with the city.

(SANILAC COUNTY) – Probable cause and preliminary examinations of the fourth suspect involved in the alleged attempted medical marijuana robbery and shootout won’t be back in court until after the holidays. According to Court officials, Preston Xavier Jack’s probable cause hearing is set for 10 a.m. January 3rd and his preliminary examination will be at 1:30 p.m. January 16th. The 30-year old suspect is charged with multiple counts, including two counts of assault with intent to murder and is being held without bond. Police said Jack was one of four Flint-area men who tried to rob a resident in Sanilac County’s Greenleaf Township last month. Two suspects died as a result of an exchange of gunfire during the attempted break-in while a third committed suicide at the Sanilac County Jail.
