Four-alarm fire destroys barn

Three Sanilac County fire departments fought a barn fire earlier this week

 
(MAPLE VALLEY TOWNSHIP) A four-alarm barn fire caused extensive damage to a Maple Valley Township barn late Monday afternoon.
According to Brown City Fire Chief Keith Redlin, the barn in the 3300 block of Wilcox Road, was fully engulfed when his department arrive on scene around 5:30 p.m.
Additional departments from Elk and Speaker Township, along with Marlette assisted at the scene.
Chief Redlin said the homeowner told him the fire started as a result of a lightning strike, but the chief would not confirm that. Seven head of cattle and a large amount of straw were lost in the blaze. Chief Redlin estimated firemen used around 50,000 gallons of water to extinguish the flames.
Firemen remained on scene for over four hours.
