(ST. CLAIR COUNTY) – No one was hurt when a train struck a minivan that may have been abandoned on railroad tracks in Wales Township. According to the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened about 4:53 a.m. Wednesday when a westbound train struck a minivan that was on the tracks about 100 yards west of Kilgore Road.
The train pushed the vehicle to the north and did not derail. According to police, the engineer was able to stop the train and walked back to the site of the crash to meet deputies. The owner later called the sheriff’s office to report an issue with the vehicle.
The incident remains under investigation.
