(SANILAC COUNTY) – It was a packed room Tuesday afternoon at the Sanilac County Board of Commissioners meeting where the board selected a five-member Sandusky Airport Zoning Board of Appeals. Ten people applied for the five positions and after a majority of them were interviewed, the Commissioners selected Joe Allen, Doug Gorringe, Timothy Juhl, Adam Ondraka and Nick Romzek.
Allen is the former manager of the Sandusky Airport and Juhl is a licensed pilot and a former teacher at C-PS of more than 30 years. Three of the five selected are licensed pilots.
In other Commissioners news, the Board approved the purchase of 23 laptop computers for all county law enforcement agencies with the expenditure coming from a grant applied for by Det. Sgt. Nate Smith. The purchase will outfit county patrol units along with one laptop each for all of the other municipalities in Sanilac County.
Smith said it will be like having a mobile office in the patrol car, complete with a card swipe device that will scan driver’s licenses and provide information faster.
Smith said the grant is a two-year plan to install laptops in each department countywide. The first year’s amount of $55,000 will be paid by the County and reimbursed through the Homeland Security grant.
Next year’s grant will add an additional 22 laptops for patrol units.
